POLYWOOD vs Berlin Gardens
Two genuine poly lumber makers. One publishes its warranty and ships to you; one sells through dealers.

Quick picks
Berlin Gardens sells through dealers, so there is nothing for us to link. These are the comparable poly lumber pieces you can actually buy today.

Both companies make real poly lumber furniture and the material argument between them is close to a draw. The difference is commercial: POLYWOOD publishes a twenty-year warranty and ships directly, while Berlin Gardens sells through a dealer network and publishes no poly furniture warranty on its own site. If you want terms in writing before you buy, that gap is the decision.
The short answer
Buy POLYWOOD if you want to read the warranty, order online and have it arrive. Go to a Berlin Gardens dealer if you want Amish-built furniture with custom color and cushion choices, and you are willing to source the warranty terms from the dealer rather than from a public page.
Because Berlin Gardens is dealer-distributed, there is nothing for us to link to and no price for us to show. That is a statement about its distribution model, not a criticism of the furniture — the same situation we describe on our US-made page, where several of the best manufacturers simply are not sold online.
The material is not the difference
Berlin Gardens states on its own site that it is located in Amish Country, Ohio, that all of its furniture is built using highest-grade poly lumber and stainless steel hardware, and that its poly lumber is manufactured using 95% recycled content. That is a credible specification and it reads much like POLYWOOD's own material description: 100% high-density polyethylene with color and UV inhibitors compounded through the material.
Both are therefore in the category we describe on the poly lumber reference page: inert, through- colored, nothing to rust, nothing to seal. Neither is the hollow blow-molded shell sold with poly-sounding language, which is the actual thing to avoid.
What each company publishes about itself
| POLYWOOD | Berlin Gardens | |
|---|---|---|
| Material | 100% HDPE, color and UV inhibitors compounded through | Highest-grade poly lumber, 95% recycled content |
| Hardware | 18-8 marine-grade stainless | Stainless steel |
| Where it is made | US manufacturer | Amish Country, Ohio |
| Published warranty | 20-year residential lumber warranty naming specific failure modes | No poly furniture warranty published on its own site |
| How you buy it | Direct online, shipped | Through a dealer network; no direct cart |
| Customization | Fixed color ranges per pattern | Custom poly colors and cushion fabrics |
Checked on both companies' own sites on 2026-10-10. The only warranty document Berlin Gardens hosts covers its Agora cabinetry line; we found no published warranty for its poly outdoor furniture, which does not mean no warranty exists - dealers may supply the terms.
The warranty gap
We treat a published warranty as the most honest durability number in any listing, because it is the only one the manufacturer is legally exposed on. POLYWOOD's terms do not just state a duration — they name splintering, cracking, chipping, peeling and rot, which is what makes the twenty-year figure meaningful rather than decorative.
Berlin Gardens does not put an equivalent document on its site. Reasonable explanations exist: dealer-distributed furniture is often warranted through the dealer, and custom orders complicate standard terms. But from a buyer's position the practical effect is the same — you cannot read the terms before you walk into a showroom.
How you actually buy each one
- POLYWOOD: online, direct or through major retailers, with free standard delivery in the contiguous US as a standing offer rather than a sale term. Color ranges are fixed per pattern and broad.
- Berlin Gardens: locate a dealer, see the colors in person, order, wait for a build slot. Custom color and cushion combinations are the real advantage, and seeing poly colors in daylight before committing is worth more than it sounds.
- The middle path: LuxCraft is Amish-built poly lumber in small batches with two-tone options, and it does appear online. If what attracts you to Berlin Gardens is the small-batch Amish build rather than the dealer experience, that is the closest thing you can order from a listing — with the caveat that LuxCraft's warranty terms vary by retailer, so read the specific listing.
How to choose
- You want terms in writing before paying: POLYWOOD.
- You want a color nobody else has: Berlin Gardens, through a dealer.
- You want it this month: POLYWOOD or Trex. Custom build slots take time.
- You want Amish-built and online: LuxCraft.
- You are choosing between POLYWOOD and Trex instead: that is a narrower comparison than this one, and we cover it on POLYWOOD vs Trex.
The picks in full
Each entry states what the product is, how it scores on our five criteria, what it gives up, and how the pick was made.

1. The published-warranty route
POLYWOOD Classic Adirondack Chair
POLYWOOD · Score 9.3/10
The reference HDPE Adirondack: color compounded through the lumber, a 20-year residential warranty, and nothing on it to rust or splinter.
Key specifications
- 100% HDPE lumber, color and UV inhibitors compounded through the material
- Marine-grade stainless hardware
- 20-year residential lumber warranty
- Arrives flat-packed; bolt-together assembly
How it scores
- Fade resistance
- 9.5
- Rust and corrosion
- 9.5
- Wind and stability
- 8.5
- Build and hardware
- 9.0
- Warranty strength
- 9.5
What works
- Fade behavior is a material property here, not a surface coat that can wear off
- Warranty language explicitly covers splintering, cracking, chipping, peeling and rot
- Heavy enough to stay put on a gusty evening
- Washes clean with soap and water — no sealing, oiling or refinishing, ever
The trade-offs
- Costs multiples of a big-box resin chair, and the value only shows up over years
- Heavy to move around a deck on your own
- Sanding it voids the warranty, so deep scratches stay

3. Same warranty, different profile
Trex Outdoor Furniture Cape Cod Adirondack
Trex Outdoor Furniture · Score 9.1/10
The same HDPE story as POLYWOOD with a squarer, more architectural profile and a matching 20-year warranty.
Key specifications
- HDPE lumber with through-color pigmentation
- Stainless steel hardware
- 20-year residential warranty
- Slightly more upright seat angle than a classic Adirondack
How it scores
- Fade resistance
- 9.5
- Rust and corrosion
- 9.5
- Wind and stability

- Build and hardware
- 9.0
- Warranty strength
- 9.5
What works
- The straighter back suits people who find classic Adirondacks too reclined
- Warranty matches the category leader
- Color range leans contemporary rather than cottage
The trade-offs
- Firmer seat — the comfort trade-off for the upright angle
- Fewer retailers stock the full color range
