Editorial independence

Deck & Dusk earns affiliate commission, and that fact is disclosed on every page that carries a product link. It does not determine what we recommend.

Concretely, that means:

• Picks and scoring criteria are decided before any affiliate link is added to a page.
• Ranking is buyer-first. Where a cheaper option is genuinely better for the reader, it ranks higher regardless of what it pays.
• No brand pays for placement, for a score, or for inclusion. We do not accept sponsored placements in roundups.
• Pages where no product honestly fits run without product links rather than carrying a tenuous one.

Sourcing standards

Every lifespan, warranty or specification figure on this site is tied to a published source recorded with its publisher, title, URL and the date it was last checked. Pages carrying such figures list those sources at the bottom.

Where published sources disagree, we show the disagreement. Averaging two contradictory unsourced figures produces a number that belongs to nobody and cannot be checked by anyone.

Where evidence for a range is weak, we say so on the page rather than inventing precision. A weakly evidenced range labeled as such is more useful than a confident-sounding number we cannot support.

What we will not publish

• Testing claims we cannot support. No laboratory, wind-tunnel or instrumented-measurement claims, because there is no lab. See how we test.
• Customer reviews, testimonials or star ratings. We have none, so we show none. Fabricating them would be dishonest and would expose readers to worthless information.
• Prices we cannot verify. Prices render live at the retailer. A stale number is worse than no number.
• Invented product data. No made-up model numbers, specifications, warranty terms or availability claims.
• Manufactured urgency. No countdown timers, no artificial scarcity, no deal claims we have not verified.
• Stock imagery presented as evidence. Photography on this site is licensed stock used illustratively. No image is ever captioned as our own test photography or as a first-hand observation.

Authorship

Every page is written by Janet H., editor and owner, janet media group. The byline on a page names the person who wrote it, and the machine-readable author information on the page names the same person. There is no ghostwriting and no house byline standing in for an unnamed contributor.

We do not claim credentials the author does not hold. There are no certifications, professional designations or "reviewed by" endorsements on this site, because there are none to claim.

Updates and corrections

Pages carry a published date and a last-updated date, both visible at the top. We review and update a page when:

• a product is discontinued or substantially changed;
• a warranty or published specification we cited changes;
• a source we relied on is revised or withdrawn;
• a reader tells us something is wrong and they are right.

Corrections are made on the page itself and the last-updated date changes to reflect it. Where a correction materially changes a recommendation, we say so on the page rather than quietly editing it.

Use of AI tools

Research, drafting and editing tools are used in producing this site, as they are across modern publishing. Every published page is reviewed by Janet H., who is accountable for its accuracy, and every factual claim is checked against the source listed for it. No page is published unreviewed, and no source is cited that has not been checked.
